On producer price changes in industry in March 2012

Compared to February, the overall level of producer prices in the Latvian industry in March 2012 decreased by 0.4%, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. The prices of products sold in the domestic market rose by 0.1%, whereas prices of exported products diminished by 1.0%. Price decrease of 9.0% in manufacture of base metals and of 1.0% in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply had the most significant lowering impact. In its turn, price growth in printing and reproduction of recorded media of 4.5% and in manufacture of food products of 0.4% had the most important increasing impact on the overall level of producer price indices.
Compared to March 2011, the overall level of producer prices in the Latvian industry in March 2012 increased by 5.4%. The prices of goods sold in the domestic market grew by 9.5%, whereas prices of exported products rose by 0.1%. Major price increases were observed in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (of 19.4%) and in manufacture of food products (of 3.2%).
