On producer price changes in industry in March 2010

Compared to February 2010, producer prices in Latvian industry in March 2010 increased by 0.8%, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. Rise of overall price level was characteristic both for goods sold on the domestic market and for exported products (respectively, by 0.2% and 1.7%). The overall level of producer prices was mostly influenced by price increase in the manufacture of basic metals (by 9.1%), in the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (by 3.2%), in the manufacture of food products and manufacture of wood and of products of wood, except furniture (by 0.9% in each activity), in waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery (by 4.7%). In its turn price decrease in the manufacture of wearing apparel (by 6.3%) and in the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (by 0.8%) had the main lowering impact on the overall producer price level.

Over a year (compared to March 2009) producer prices in industry dropped by 2.5%. Reduction of prices of products sold on the domestic market was 7.1%, but prices of exported products increased by 5.0%. The changes of the prices of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (drop of 14.2%), as well as in the manufacture of food products ( decrease of 2.8%), in the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products (reduction of 7.8%), in the manufacture of basic metals (increase of 16.1%), in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood, except furniture (growth of 5.6%) and in waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery (rise of 57.0%) had the biggest impact on the overall level of producer prices.
