On producer price changes in industry in August 2010

Compared to July, the overall level of producer prices in Latvian industry in August 2010 increased by 0.6%, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. Rise of overall price level was characteristic both for goods sold on the domestic market (by 0.7%) and for exported goods where prices increased by 0.6%. Major price increases were in the manufacture of basic metals (by 2.0%), in the manufacture of food products (by 0.6%), in waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery (by 9.3%), in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood, except furniture (by 0.8%) and in the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (by 1.1%).

Over a year (compared to August 2009) producer prices in industry increased by 7.0%. The rise in prices of products sold on the domestic market was 4.9%, but prices of exported products rose by 10.3%. The changes of the prices in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (rise of 8.7%), in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood, except furniture (growth of 13.4%), in the manufacture of basic metals (increase of 36.6%), in the manufacture of food products and in waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery (rise of 2.4% and 37.4%, respectively) had the biggest impact on the overall level of producer prices.
