On producer price changes in industry in April 2012

Compared to March, the overall level of producer prices in the Latvian industry in April 2012 increased by 0.9%, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. The prices of products sold on the domestic market rose by 0.5%, while prices of exported products grew by 1.3%. The overall level of producer prices was mostly influenced by price growth in the manufacture of basic metals (of 8.3%), in the manufacture of wood and products of wood, except furniture (of 2.3%), in the manufacture of food products (of 0.6%) and in the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products (of 1.6%). In its turn, the decrease of 4.7% in the manufacture of beverages, of 2.2% in the manufacture of wearing apparel and of 1.4% in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products had the most significant lowering impact on the overall level of producer prices.
Compared to April 2011, the overall level of producer prices in the Latvian industry in April 2012 increased by 4.0%. The prices of goods sold on the domestic market grew by 5.6%, whereas prices of exported products rose by 1.8%. The most notable price growth was recorded in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (of 10.3%), in the manufacture of food products (of 2.8%), in the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products (of 7.7%) and in waste collection, treatment and disposal activities, materials recovery (of 6.8%).
