Price and wage changes in the 1st quarter of 2006

On base of the results of price registration and calculations of wages statistics, Central Statistical Board reports the following:

Consumption prices in 1st quarter of 2006, in comparison with 1st quarter of 2005, have grown by 7.0%, while the total average net wages in the country within this period have grown by 19.2%. The actual wages growth was 11.4%.

In public sector, net wages increased by 18.0%, including budget institutions – by 15.4%, and in commercial companies with state or municipal share 50% and more (hereinafter referred to as state and municipal commercial companies) – by 22.4%.

Average net wages of employees of private sector in 1st quarter of 2006, in comparison with 1st quarter of 2005, increased by 20.8%.

In the country in total, gross wages grew by 19.2%, in public sector by 17.8%, in budget institutions by 15.3%, in state and municipal commercial companies by 22.0%, and in private sector by 20.8%.

The increase of wages in the country was stimulated by the increase of minimum monthly wages from 80 to 90 lats; the increase of net wages – by increase of non-taxable monthly minimum wages from 26 to 32 lats, and the increase of tax exempt of income tax of residents for persons in their maintenance from 18 to 22 lats per month, starting with January 1, 2006.
