In October, retail trade turnover increased by 0.2 %

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to October 2015, total retail trade turnover in October 2016 rose by 0.2 %. Turnover of retail trade in food products decreased by 2.7 %, whereas the turnover of retail trade in non-food products increased by 2.0 %.

Compared to October 2015, in October 2016 the most significant turnover growth in the non-food product group was recorded in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 23.6 %), in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 19.8 %), in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 6.4 %), in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 3.6 %) and in retail sale of electrical household appliances (of 3.3 %). In turn, a drop in turnover was recorded in retail sale of automotive fuel (of 4.2 %), in retail sale in non-specialised stores where mostly non-food products are sold (of 2.0 %), as well as in retail sale of information and communication equipment (of 1.4 %).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices decreased by 0.1 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to September, the total retail trade turnover in October 2016 increased by 0.6 % (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices). Turnover of retail trade in food products decreased by 0.4 %, whereas the turnover of retail trade in non-food products rose by 1.4 %.

Turnover growth was recorded in retail sale of electrical household appliances (of 8.4 %), in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 6.0 %), in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 2.7 %), as well as in retail sale of automotive fuel (of 2.3 %). In turn, a drop in turnover was recorded in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 3.1 %), in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 2.7 %), as well as in retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (of 0.5 %).

Compared to September 2016, the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) rose by 2.0 % in October.
