In October industrial production output grew by 6.7 %

05.12.2016

The data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to October 2015,  in October 2016 industrial production output increased by 6.7 % (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices). Production output rise in manufacturing comprised 7.0 %, in mining and quarrying 9.8 %, and in electricity and gas supply 5.1 %.

Compared to the previous year, production growth mainly was due to the production output increase in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (of 21.2 %) and manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (of 18.8 %). Rise was registered in the proportionally largest manufacturing sectors – manufacture of food products (of 6.0 %), manufacture of wood and of products of wood (4.9 %), and manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (4.6 %). Production and sale rise was recorded in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations.

In its turn, production output decline was observed in repair and installation of machinery and equipment (of 12.4 %), manufacture of paper and paper products (11.8 %), and manufacture textiles (4.4 %).

Compared to September 2016, in October 2016 industrial production output grew by 2.4 %, (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices); of which by 6.8 % in mining and quarrying, by 0.8 % in manufacturing, and by 13.5 % electricity and gas supply.

Methodological explanations

The industrial production volume index describes changes in the volume of industrial production during the reference period in comparison to the base period. The index is estimated by recalculating the production output indicator at constant prices with the help of producer price indices.

The industrial turnover index measures the monthly development of market demand for industrial goods and services.  It is calculated at current prices without excluding price influence.  Unlike industrial goods that also include unfinished goods and goods in stock, turnover only includes the goods sold and industrial services provided.
