In October, industrial production grew by 0.3%

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that, in comparison with September, industrial production volume in October increased by 0.3%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices; of which in manufacturing – by 0.3%, in electricity and gas supply – by 1%, while in mining and quarrying there was a decrease of 1.2%.

As compared to September, the most notable growth in industrial production was recorded in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products – of 15.6%, in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products – of 12.4%, and in manufacture of machinery and equipment – of 6.2%.

In comparison with October 2012, industrial production output in October 2013 rose by 1.3%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices; of which in mining and quarrying – by 6.8%, in manufacturing – by 1.9%, while in electricity and gas supply there was a drop of 1.6%.

The most notable increase in manufacturing during the year was observed in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products – of 53.1%, in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers – of 21.5%, and in manufacture of textiles – of 14.1%.Increase was recorded also in manufacturing sectors having the largest share in industrial production:  wood processing – of 7%, manufacture of food products – of 4.6%, and metalworking – of 0.2%. While decline in manufacturing, as compared to October 2012, was recorded in manufacture of basic metals – of 68.6%, in manufacture of other transport equipment – of 67.6%, and in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations – of 15.4%.
