Number of students in higher education institutions of Latvia is decreasing
According to provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB), in academic year 2014/2015 29.2 thsd students undertook studies in 60 higher education institutions, of which in 25 colleges, which is less by 6.6% than in academic year 2013/2014.
More than a half of enrolled students (56.1%) study for their personal means, but 43.9% – for state and local government funds. 55.8% of students enrolled is comprised by females.
In total in academic year 2014/2015 85.9 thsd students are studying in higher education institutions of Latvia, which is 4.3% less than in the previous academic year. Of which 51.2 thsd or 59.6% is females.
In this academic year 5 285 students, who have acquired previous education abroad (of which also foreigners), continue their studies in higher education institutions of Latvia. That is 18% more than in the previous academic year.
According to the data of the Ministry of Education and Science, in academic year 2013/2014 1745 Latvian students studied in foreign higher education institutions within the framework of exchange programme.
In 2014 17.4 thsd students acquired higher education which is 19.5% less than in 2013.
