Number of newborns keeps increasing also in April
Birth rate growth trend has been observed over the past three years. Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that in April 1745 newborns were registered in the country. In the first four months this year 6813 babies were registered in the Latvia, which is 283 babies more than in January - April 2013.
Also the number of marriages has been growing. In the first four months there were 2134 marriages registered in Latvia, which is 206 marriages more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In April 632 marriages were registered in Latvia - 46 more than in April 2013.
In the first four months of 2014, 9784 persons passed away, which is 1186 persons fewer than in the corresponding period of the previous year. 2371 persons passed away in April.
Natural increase in Latvia is still negative. In January - April 2014, with the number of deaths exceeding the number of births, the number of Latvian residents dropped by 2971 (in January - April 2013 - by 4440).
