Number of foreign visitors in Latvian accommodation establishments grew by 3.6% in the 3rd quarter


According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) in the 3rd quarter of 2015, 543.5 thsd foreign visitors stayed in Latvian accommodation establishments, which is 3.6% more than in the 3rd quarter of 2014; in turn the number of nights spent by foreign visitors in accommodation establishments dropped by 3.3%.

The number of visitors from Russia decreased by 24.8%, while a significant growth was recorded in the number of visitors from Lithuania (of 30.9%) and from Estonia (of 30.0%). Of all foreign tourists 71.8% stayed in Riga, 10.8% – in Jūrmala, 3.0% – in Ventspils, 2.4% – in Sigulda county, 1.8% – in Liepāja.

In the 3rd quarter of 2015, 238.5 thsd Latvian residents were served in accommodation establishments, which is 0.5% less as compared to the corresponding period of 2014. Also the number of nights spent by local residents in accommodation establishments has decreased by 2.2%.

Latvian residents stayed in accommodation establishments in Riga (19.3%), in Jūrmala (6.5%), in Liepāja (6.2%), in Ventspils (5.4%), in Engure county (4.3%), and in Sigulda county (3.1%).

In the 3rd quarter of 2015, 436.4 thsd guests stayed in accommodation establishments in Riga, which is 2.7% more than in the 3rd quarter of 2014; of which the number of foreign tourists in Riga has grown by 2.1%. The majority of foreign visitors were from Germany (15.3%), Russia (9.4%), Estonia (7.5%), Finland (6.8%), Lithuania (5.9%), Sweden (5.9%), Norway (5.0%), the United Kingdom (4.7%) and Italy (4.0%).
