In November industrial production increased by 11 %

03.01.2017

The data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to November 2015, in November 2016 industrial production output increased by 11 %, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Production output rise in manufacturing accounted for 9.1 %, in mining and quarrying for 9.8 % and in electricity and gas supply for 18.6 %.

Compared to November of the year before, in November 2016 production increase was influenced by notable rise in most of the manufacturing sectors, including manufacturing of high- and medium-high-tech industries, such as manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (of 46.6 %), manufacture of electrical equipment (of 31.3 %), manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (of 14.6 %), manufacture of machinery and equipment  (of 12.2 %), as well as manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations. Rise in the demand for products in export markets, especially in non-euro area, was one of the main factors contributing to the production output increase.

Production output growth in energy sector was affected by the increase in electricity production in hydro power plants and combined heat and power plants.

Compared to October, in November industrial production output went up by 2.8 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices, of which in manufacturing by 1.9 %, in electricity and gas supply by 7.4 %, while in mining and quarrying there was a drop of 3.9 %.

Methodological explanations

The volume index of industrial production describes changes in the volume of industrial production during the reference period in comparison to the base period. The index is estimated by recalculating the production output indicator at constant prices with the help of producer price indices.

The industrial turnover index measures the monthly development of market demand for industrial goods and services. It is calculated at current prices without excluding price influence. Unlike industrial goods that also include unfinished goods and goods in stock, turnover only includes the goods sold and industrial services provided.
