Last year industrial production volume reduced by 0.4%; in manufacturing – increase of 0.6%

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that, compared to 2012, industrial production in 2013 (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices) has dropped by 0.4%. The reduction was notably influenced by decline in electricity and gas supply (of 4.3%), whereas industrial production in manufacturing has grown by 0.6% and in mining and quarrying – by 3.9%.

In comparison with the year before, the most significant production drop in 2013 was recorded in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (of 27.6%), in manufacture of furniture (of 10.6%), and in manufacture of electrical equipment (of 9%). Successful economic results were observed also in sections having the greatest share in manufacturing field, namely, in manufacture of food products (+6.4%), in wood processing (+3.3%), and in manufacture of fabricated metal products (+2.3%). The most notable reduction of industrial production, in turn, was recorded in manufacture of basic metals of 55.8% due to discontinued economic activity of "Liepājas metalurgs", in repair and installation of machinery and equipment (repair and maintenance of ships and boats, repair of fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment, installation of industrial machinery and equipment) (of 20.5%), and in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (of 13.5%).

In comparison with the 3rd quarter, industrial production output (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices) in the 4th quarter of 2013 has declined by 0.6%; of which by 2.2% in mining and quarrying, by 3.6% in electricity and gas supply, while in manufacturing there was a rise of 2%.

Compared to the 4th quarter of 2012, industrial production output (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices) in the 4th quarter of 2013 has reduced by 0.6%; of which by 10.8% in electricity and gas supply, while mining and quarrying as well as in manufacturing indicated a rise of 6.9% and 2.7%, respectively.

In comparison with November, industrial production volume in December 2013 (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices) has decreased by 1.4%, of which by 6.4% in electricity and gas supply, whereas in manufacturing there was an increase of 1% and in mining and quarrying – of 3.7%.

As compared to December 2012, industrial production output in December 2013 (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices) has dropped by 4.1%, of which by 21.4% in electricity and gas supply, while in mining and quarrying there was a growth of 18.3% and in manufacturing – of 3.3%.
