Last year construction output rose by 6.9%

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that, in 2013 construction output at current prices was 1167.4 mln lats (1661 mln euros) of which in the 4th quarter - 366.7 mln lats (521.7 mln euros).

In comparison with 2012, construction outputin 2013 increased by 6.9%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Construction of buildings went up by 4.2%, of which construction of residential buildings rose by 57.9%. Compared to the previous year, construction of civil engineering structures increased by 8.8%. The most notable growth was in construction of main pipelines, communication and power lines, as well as in construction of harbours - by 76.3% and 70.4%, respectively, which was favoured by implementation of projects financed by the EU funds. The major decrease, however, was in construction of local pipelines and cables by 37.8% and in construction of hospital or institutional care buildings by34.3%.

Compared to the 3rd quarter, construction output in the 4th quarterhas dropped by 2.2%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices, and it was affected by reduction in construction of civil engineering structures by 4.4%. While construction of buildings rose by 5.8%.

Compared to the 4th quarter a year ago, construction volumein the 4th quarter went up by 3.9%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Construction of buildings grew by 3.0%, of which construction of residential buildings by 36.1% and construction of office buildings – 2.6 times. Due to the notable rise in construction of main pipelines, communication and power lines, as well as in construction of bridges and tunnels - by 74.1% and 42.0%, respectively. Similar as last year, also during this period major decrease was observed in construction of local pipelines and cables by 37.4% and in construction of hospital or institutional care buildings by36.0%.

During the 4thquarter, 417 building permits were granted for the construction, capital repairs, reconstruction and restoration of single dwelling buildings with total floor space 93.6 thousand m2. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the number comprises 118 building permits less, and intended total floor space has reduced by 28.0%. 273 building permits were issued for the construction of new single dwelling buildings with total floor space 64.3 thousand m2 – 24.4% of total floor space less and 81 permit less.

Whereas 107 building permits were granted for the construction of industrial buildings and warehouses with total floor space 199.6 thousand m2. In comparison with the 4th quarter of the previous year, 3 building permits less were issued and 7.4% total floor space less. 58 permits were granted for the construction of new industrial buildings and warehouses with total floor space 133.7 thousand m2 – 4 permits less, but intended floor space was 1.8 times wider.
