In June, industrial production volume reduced by 0.2%

Latest seasonally adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that, compared to May, volume of industrial production in June 2013 has diminished by 0.2%. The decrease was mainly due to the drop in electricity and gas supply (of 6.7%); whereas in manufacturing industrial production has grown by 1.2% and in mining and quarrying – by 4.8%.

Compared to June 2012, industrial production output in June of this year has reduced by 0.4%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Of which in electricity and gas supply - by 7.1%, while in mining and quarrying as well as in manufacturing there was an increase of 14.2% and 0.8%, respectively. The most notable production growth among manufacturing sectors was recorded in manufacture of other transport equipment (building of ships and boats, manufacture of railway locomotives and rolling stock) – 2.9 times, in manufacture of furniture – of 13.9%, and in manufacture of non-metallic mineral products – of 13.5%.

In comparison with the 1st quarter, industrial production output in the 2nd quarter of this year hasincreased by 1.7%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Of which by 1% in manufacturing and by 0.5% in electricity and gas supply, while in mining and quarrying there was a decrease of 1.4%.

As compared to the 2nd quarter of 2012, industrial production output in the 2nd quarter of 2013 hasreduced by 0.1%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Of which in manufacturing by 0.6%, whereas in mining and quarrying as well as in electricity and gas supply there was an increase of 0.6% and 1.7%, respectively.

In comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year, industrial production output in the 1st half of 2013 has decreased by 0.6%, according to calendar adjusted data. The drop was because of the diminish in manufacturing (of 1.1%), while in mining and quarrying as well as in electricity and gas supply there was a rise of 1.7% and 0.2%, respectively. During the six months, the most significant industrial production decrease was observed in manufacture of basic metals – of 43.5%, in repair and installation of machinery and equipment (repair and maintenance of ships and boats, repair of fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment, installation of industrial machinery and equipment) – of 28%, and in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products – of 19.1%. Notable rise during the 1st half of the year, as compared to the 1st half of the previous year, was recorded also in manufacture of furniture – of 13.8%, and in manufacture of electrical equipment – of 11.4%.
