Industrial production in September grew by 0.2%

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that, in comparison with August, industrial production volume in September of this year increased by 0.2%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Of which in manufacturing by 0.4%, in electricity and gas supply by 0.9%, while in mining and quarrying there was a reduction of 0.4%. Notable rise (of 4%) among all manufacturing sectors was recorded in wood processing.

Compared to September 2012, industrial production output in September 2013, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices grew by 0.7%; the rise was mainly because of successful activities of manufacturing sector (increase of 1.9%). Whereas in mining and quarrying as well as electricity and gas supply there was a drop of 0.5% and 4.5%, respectively. The most notable production growth among all manufacturing sectors was recorded in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products – of 28.8%, in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products – of 23.5%, and in manufacture of paper and paper products – of 12.4%. Increase was recorded also in manufacturing sectors having the largest share in industrial production: wood processing – of 8.9%, manufacture of food products – of 7.6%, and metalworking – of 6.3%.

In comparison with the 2nd quarter, industrial production output in the3rd quarter of this year increased by 1.6%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. It includes rise in manufacturing of 2.4%, and in mining and quarrying of 10.6%, as well as drop in electricity and gas supply of 4.3%.

In comparison with the 3rd quarter of 2012, industrial production output in the 3rd quarter of this year grew by 0.2%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. It includes rise in mining and quarrying of 4.9% and increase in manufacturing of 1.7%, as well as reduction in electricity and gas supply of 6.9%.

Compared to the corresponding period of the year before, industrial production output in nine months of 2013, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices, diminished by 0.3%; the drop was mainly because of the reduction in manufacturing of 0.1% and decrease of 1.6% in electricity and gas supply, while in mining and quarrying there was a rise of 3.1%. Considerable downward pressure on industrial production was put by manufacture of basic metals – of 52.4%, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (repair and maintenance of ships and boats, repair of fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment, installation of industrial machinery and equipment) – of 24.1%, and manufacture of chemicals and chemical products – of 16.4%. While rise in the manufacturing volume was recorded in the largest manufacturing sectors: manufacture of food products – of 5.7%, metalworking – of 2.2%, and wood processing – of 1.5%.
