04.12.2008

In January – October 2008 industrial production output1 (at current prices) comprised LVL 4027 mln, of which in October – LVL 416.7 mln, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau.

Volume index of manufacturing (2000=100)

Compared to September 2008 industrial production volume (at constant prices), excluding steam and water supply, in October 2008 decreased by 3.7%, according to seasonally adjusted data (seasonal and working day influence was taken into account). Of which in manufacturing – by 3.2%, in electricity and gas supply - by 5.2%, but in mining and quarrying there was an increase of 1.9%. Most notable decrease of industrial production was observed in manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers – by 44.6%, in manufacturing of other transport equipment (repairing and construction of ships and boats) – by 28.9% and in manufacturing of food products and beverages – by 17.0%.

Compared to October of previous year in October 2008 industrial production output, except steam and water supply, has reduced by 9%, according to working day adjusted data. Of which in manufacturing – by 11.1%, in electricity and gas supply - by 4.8%, but in mining and quarrying there was an increase of 16.9%. Most notable decrease of industrial production output was observed in manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers – by 47.4%, in the manufacturing of furniture – by 29.6%, in manufacturing of other transport equipment (repairing and construction of ships and boats) – by 29.1%.

More information on seasonally adjusted, working day adjusted and non-adjusted industrial production volume indices is available in the data base of CSB.

1 Data are compiled on economically active enterprises, which in industrial production employ 20 and more persons, or in which industrial turnover previous year exceeded LVL 300 thsd.

Industrial production volume includes income from produced goods and sale of works (services) of industrial character excluding value added tax, final product stock and unfinished product stock changes at the end of the reference period in comparison with the beginning of the reference period, and value of equipment produced with the help of the enterprise labour force for own needs, as well as, capital repairs of the equipment.

2 The influence of varying number of working days in the month and factors of seasonal repetition, i.e., seasonal fluctuations of goods produced in selected economic activities, has been eliminated.
