Industrial production output in June 2009

In June 2009 industrial production output1 (at current prices) comprised LVL 295.4 mln, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau.

Volume index of manufacturing (2005=100)

Compared to May 2009 industrial production volume in June 2009 has increased by 1.4%, according to seasonally adjusted data2. Of which in manufacturing – by 0.9%, in electricity and gas supply - by 11.5%, but in mining and quarrying there was a decrease of 32.3%. Most notable growth of industrial production volume was recorded in manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. – 13.8%, in manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products – 9.8%, and in repair and installation of machinery and equipment (repair and maintenance of ships and boats, repair of fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment, installation of industrial machinery and equipment) – 8.2%. But reduction, in turn, was observed in the manufacture of other transport equipment (building of ships and boats, manufacture of railway locomotives and rolling stock) – 37.2%, in manufacture of non-metallic mineral products – 13.8%, and in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products – 6.3%.

Compared to June of previous year industrial production output in June 2009 has reduced by 18.5%, according to working day adjusted data. Of which in mining and quarrying – by 22.3%, in manufacturing - by 20%, but in electricity, gas and water supply - by 4.9%. Most notable decrease of industrial production output was recorded in the manufacture of other transport equipment (building of ships and boats, manufacture of railway locomotives and rolling stock) – 77.7%, in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers – 53.2%, and in manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. – 52.3%. But increase, in turn, was observed in manufacturing of wood and cork articles, except furniture – 1.3%.

Compared to 1st quarter of 2009
industrial production output in the 2nd quarter of 2009 according to seasonally adjusted data has increased by 2.2%, of which in mining and quarrying by 0.4%, in manufacturing - by 3%, but in electricity and gas supply there was a reduction of 1.2%.

Compared to the corresponding quarter of previous year industrial production output in the 2nd quarter of 2009 reduced by 18.7%, according to working day adjusted data, of which in mining and quarrying by 1.4%, in manufacturing - by 20.6%, in electricity and gas supply – by 8.9%.

In January – June 2009 industrial production output decreased by 20.5%. Of which in manufacturing by 22.9%, in electricity and gas supply - by 11.1%, but in mining and quarrying there was an increase of 0.1%.

Industrial production volume in accordance with the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities NACE 2.rev. includes Mining and quarrying, Manufacturing and Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, except steam and air conditioning supply.

2 The influence of varying number of working days in the month and factors of seasonal repetition, i.e., seasonal fluctuations of goods produced in selected economic activities, has been eliminated.
