Industrial production output in January 2008

05.03.2008

Compared to December 2007, in January 2008 industrial production output1 at constant prices (considering the influence of the price changes in the reference period) has decreased by 3.9%, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau. But according to the seasonally adjusted data (considering the influence of the season and number of working days) it has increased by 2%. Of which the increase in mining and quarrying constituted 8.3% (4.2% according to seasonally adjusted data), in electricity, gas and water supply there was a rise of 7.8% (3.4% according to seasonally adjusted data), but in manufacturing there was a decrease of 8.8% (increase of 1.5% according to seasonally adjusted data).

Compared to January of previous year, in January 2008 industrial production output has decreased by 0.1%, but according to the data adjusted by the number of working days it has increased by 0.5%, of which in mining and quarrying growth comprised 13.6% (13.6% also according to data adjusted by number of working days), in electricity, gas and water supply there was an rise of 8.5% (the same figure was obtained when adjusting the data by number of working days), but output of manufacturing reduced by 4.6% (3.8% according to data adjusted by number of working days).

Changes in volume indices of production (year 2000=100%)

________________________________
1
Includes receipts from the sale of goods produced and industrial works (services) excluding value added tax, changes in stocks of finished products and work in progress (plus or minus) at the end of the reference period against the beginning of the period, evaluated on the basis of production costs, value of the fixed assets produced on own account employing the enterprise workforce as well as capital repair of the equipment.

___________________________
2 The influence of the factors of various number of working days in the month and seasonal repetition had been averted, i.e., seasonal fluctuations of production volume in selected fields (e.g., annual summer leaves, milk production increase during the pasture season, production of preserved fruit and vegetables related to the yield season, heat production in the heating season). This indicator has been calculated only for the comparison with previous period (month).

3 The influence of changing number of working days in the month has been averted. This indicator has been calculated only for the comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year (month).
