Industrial output in May 2008

04.07.2008

Compared to April 2008, industrial production output[1] in May 2008 at constant prices, i.e., considering the influence of the price changes, has decreased by 3.1%, according to the seasonally adjusted data (the influence of the season and working days has been taken into account) of the Central Statistical Bureau. Of which in manufacturing there was a volume decrease of 3.3%, in electricity, gas and water supply - of 3.4%, but in mining and quarrying the volume increased by 7.1%.

Compared to May of previous year, in May 2008 industrial production output, according to working day adjusted data, has decreased by 8.5%. Of which in manufacturing there was a volume decrease by 8%, in electricity, gas and water supply - by 9.6%, but in mining and quarrying the volume increased by 3.1%.

The decrease in industrial production is related to the drop in demand and decrease of orders in the following economic activities: food, textiles and wearing apparel, manufacture of wood, paper products, printing, chemicals and chemical products, rubber and plastic products, construction materials and furniture. Also, the decrease of manufacturing volume was influenced by interruption of enterprises’ activity in separate economic activities.

More information on seasonally adjusted, adjusted by number of working days and non-adjusted data on industrial production volume indices is available in data base of CSB.

[1] Includes income from the sales of products and services of industrial character excluding value added tax, finished and unfinished production stock changes at the end and at the beginning of the reference period, and the value of devices produced by the enterprise labour force for own needs, as well as capital repairs of the equipment.

[2] The influence of varying number of working days and influence of seasonal repetitions factors, i.e., seasonal fluctuation of production volume in selected economic activities, has been averted.
