Industrial output in March 2006

Compared to March of the previous year, industrial output according to seasonally adjusted data rose in March 2006 by 9.2%, including 22.5% in mining and quarrying, 11.5% in processing and 1.5% in electricity, gas and water supply, according to the Central Statistical Bureau.

Compared to March of the previous year, there was an increase by 8.2% in manufacturing of food products and beverages. Increases could be observed in the following sub-sectors: 17.2% in manufacturing, processing and preserving of meat and meat products, 15.5% in manufacturing of beverages, 14.8% in manufacturing of milk products, 7.6% in processing and preserving of fish and fish products, 4.3% in processing and preserving of fruit and vegetables. Production amounts have decreased in: manufacturing of grain mill products and of starch and starch products by 10.5%, in manufacturing of prepared animal food by 1.2%, in manufacturing of other food products (bread, confectionery and sugar) by 1.2%.

In comparison with March of the previous year, the output in March 2006 increased in the following sectors: 22.5% in manufacturing of textiles; 22.1% in manufacturing of electrical machinery and equipment; 18.9% in manufacturing of machinery and equipment n.e.c.; 18.6% in publishing, printing and reproduction of recorded media; 18.2% in manufacturing of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres; 14.0% in manufacturing of fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment; 14.2% in manufacturing of wood and articles of wood except furniture; 13.8% in manufacturing of furniture; 8.0% in manufacturing of rubber and plastic products n.e.c.

The decreases in industrial output were 0.3% in manufacturing of pulp, paper and paper products; 0.7% in manufacturing of basic metals; 30.5% in manufacturing of other transport equipment (building and repairing of ships, boats, locomotives, and carriages), 4.9% in manufacturing of non-metallic mineral products (ceramics, cement, concrete and other products); 8.7% in manufacturing of wearing apparel.

Compared to February2006, industrial output in March 2006 increased by 2.3%, including 2.7% in mining and quarrying, 3.9% in processing, whereas a decrease of 2.9% could be observed in electricity, gas and water supply.
