Industrial output in August 2006

Compared with August last year, seasonally adjusted industrial production output in August 2006 rose by 7.6%, according to the Central Statistical Bureau. Within industrial production, the increases were 12.9% in mining and quarrying, 8.2% in manufacturing and 5.3% in electricity, gas and water supply.

Compared with August of the previous year, the increase in production output of food products and beverages in August this year was 9.6%. There were increases in the following activities: 20.1% in the manufacture of beverages, 16.7% in the manufacture, processing and preserving of meat and meat products, 11.3% in the manufacture of other food products (bread, confectionery, sugar)), 4.4% in the manufacture of milk products and 4.3% in the processing and preserving of fruit and vegetables. There were decreases in production output in the processing and preserving of fish and fish products (by 3.8%) and in the manufacture of grain mill products, starch and starch products (by 0.9%).

Compared with August of the previous year, there were the following increases in production output in August 2006: 22.8% in the manufacture of fabricated metal products except machinery, 19.8% in the manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres, 19.6% in the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products (ceramics, cement, concrete and other products), 17.9% in the manufacture of textiles, 15.0% in the manufacture of rubber and plastic products, 13.8% in the manufacture of furniture, 11.0% in the manufacture of machinery and equipment, 7.2% in the manufacture of paper and paper products, 7.0% in the manufacture of electrical machinery and equipment, 6.2% in publishing, printing and reproduction of recorded media, 6.2% in the manufacture of base metals and 3.9% in the manufacture of other transport equipment (repair of ships, boats, locomotives and rolling stock).

The decreases in production output were 8.3% in the manufacture of wearing apparel and 2.6% in the manufacture of wood and of articles of wood except furniture.

Compared with July 2006, production output in August 2006 increased by 2.1%. Of this, the increases were 4.0% in mining and quarrying and 3.6% in manufacturing. Output in electricity, gas and water supply has decreased by 2.9%
