The value of exports in September 2006 decreased by 0.2% or 0.7 mln lats compared to the previous month but compared to September 2005 it increased by 10.7% or 27.5 mln lats reaching 283.6 mln lats.
The value of imports in September 2006 was by 2.6% or 14.6 mln lats higher than a month ago but compared to September 2005 it was by 31.0% or 134.4 mln lats higher and reached 567.5 mln lats.
The total foreign trade turnover in January-September 2006 was by 24.0% or 1324.1 mln lats higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year and its value reached 6831.7 mln lats.

Compared to January-September 2005, the highest increases in exports in January-September 2006 were 43.7% for the products of the chemical and allied industries, 36.1% for plastics and plastic products and 32.5% for base metals and articles of base metals. The decreases in exports, in turn, were 30.7% for mineral products, 11.0% for pulp of wood; paper and paperboard and 8.1% for optical instruments and apparatus, clocks and watches, musical instruments.
Compared to January-September 2005, the steepest increases in imports in January-September 2006 were 62.0% for transport vehicles, 54.7% for miscellaneous manufactured articles (including furniture), 36.5% for the articles of stone, plaster, cement, glassware and ceramic products and
34.9% for optical instruments and apparatus, clocks and watches, musical instruments.
