Foreign trade of Latvia in October 2006

The value of exports in October 2006 increased by 3.6% or 10.3 mln lats compared to the previous month but compared to October 2005 it increased by 11.7% or 30.9 mln lats reaching 294.5 mln lats.

The value of imports in October 2006 was by 3.7% or 21.2 mln lats higher than a month ago but compared to October 2005 it was by 23.1% or 110.5 mln lats higher and reached 588.9 mln lats.

The total foreign trade turnover in January-October 2006 was by 23.7% or 1481.1 mln lats higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year and its value reached 7730.7 mln lats.

Latvia’s foreign trade, in millions of lats

Compared to January-October 2005, the highest increases in exports in January-October 2006 were 42.8% for the products of the chemical and allied industries, 35.2% for plastics and plastic products and 31.9% for base metals and articles of base metals. The decreases in exports, in turn, were 30.9% for mineral products, 13.0% for pulp of wood; paper and paperboard and 8.1% for optical instruments and apparatus, clocks and watches, musical instruments.

Compared to January-October 2005, the steepest increases in imports in January-October 2006 were 61.2% for transport vehicles, 51.7% for miscellaneous manufactured articles (including furniture), 36.8% for the articles of stone, plaster, cement, glassware and ceramic products and

33.1 % for the base metals and articles of base metals.
