Foreign trade of Latvia in November 2007

Compared to October 2007, the value of exports in current prices inNovember 2007 decreased by 1.7% or 6.4 mln lats, but in comparison with November 2006 it increased by 24.8 % or 73.0 mln lats, reaching 367.8 mln lats, according to Central Statistical Bureau data.

The value of imports in current prices inNovember 2007 decreased by 5.3% or 36.0 mln lats compared to October 2007, but in comparison with November 2006 it increased by 4.8% or 29.6 mln lats, reaching 647.3 mln lats, according to Central Statistical Bureau data.

The total foreign trade turnover in November 2007 was 11.2% or 102.6 mln lats higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year and its value was as high as 1015.1 mln lats.

In November 2007, in comparison with November 2006 the value of the most important commodity in the exports of wood and articles of wood increased by 23.2%. Exports of agriculture and food products increased by 49.1%, exports of mineral products - by 39.3%, exports of products of the chemical and allied industries – by 28.6%, exports of pulp of wood; paper and paperboard – by 27.5%, exports of plastics and articles thereof – 19.7%. But the exports of footwear, headgear, umbrellas and other articles, as well as exports of raw hides, leather, fur, skins and articles thereof have decreased, respectively by 24.8% and by 6.4%.

In November 2007, in comparison with October 2007 the value of exports of mineral products increased by 10.9%, of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment – by 3.5%, of products of the chemical and allied industries – by 3.1%, of wood and articles of wood – by 2.4%, of pulp of wood; paper and paperboard - by 1.2%. The exports of plastics and articles thereof; rubber and articles thereof decreased by 8.6%, exports of agriculture and food products – by 7.0%, exports of base metals and articles of base metals – by 4.5%.

In November 2007, in comparison with November 2006 the value of the most important commodity in the imports increased: for wood and articles of wood – by 19.8%, for agriculture and food products – by 18.3%, for mineral products – by 13.2%, for products of the chemical and allied industries – by 13.0%, for pulp of wood; paper and paperboard – by 9.2%, for plastics and articles thereof – by 7.4%.

But the imports of footwear, headgear, umbrellas and other articles decreased by 19.6%, imports of transport vehicles – by 5.4%, imports of base metals and articles of base metals - by 1.7%.

In November 2007, in comparison with October 2007 the value of imports of mineral products increased by 25.8%, of products of the chemical and allied industries - by 7.6%, of agriculture and food products – by 4.5%, of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment – by 3.3%. Imports of footwear, headgear, umbrellas and other articles decreased by 38.9%, of plastics and articles thereof; rubber and articles thereof – by 21.4%, of textiles and textile articles – by 15.1%, of wood and articles of wood – by 13.7%.
