Foreign trade of Latvia in June 2007

Compared to the May 2007, the value of exports in June 2007 decreased by 2.6% or 9.2 mln lats, but in comparison with June 2006 it increased by 17.7 % or 51.3 mln lats, reaching 340.9 mln lats, according to Central Statistical Bureau data.

The value of imports in June 2007 was, in turn, 2.0% or 13.3 mln lats lower than in May 2006, but 27.2% or 138.8 mln last higher compared to June 2006, reaching 649.6 mln lats.

The total foreign trade turnover in June 2007 was 23.8% or 190.1 mln lats higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year and its value was as high as 990.4 mln lats.

In June 2007, in comparison with June 2006, in the exports of Latvia the value of main activities – wood and articles of wood - increased by 27.9%. Exports of products of the chemical and allied industries increased noticeably - by 25.2%, exports of base metals and articles of base metals increased by 10.2%. But the exports of mineral products decreased by19.5%.

In June 2007, in comparison with May 2007 the value of exports of transport vehicles increased by 24.4of products of the chemical and allied industries - by 5.6%, of textiles and textile articles – by 2.6%. But the exports of base metals and articles of base metals decreased by 20.2%, of mineral products – by 16.9 %, as well as exports of wood and articles of wood – by 0.9%.

In June 2007, in comparison with June 2006 the import value increased in all main commodity groups. The imports of mineral products increased by 29.6%, of base metals and articles of base metals - by 28.2%, of plastics and articles thereof; rubber and articles thereof - by 23.1%, of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment - by 22.0%.

In June 2007, in comparison with May 2007, inthe value of main activities exports of mineral products increased by 9.8%, of agricultural and food products – by 6.5% and of plastics and articles thereof; rubber and articles thereof - by 0.8%, but the imports of textiles and textile articles decreased by 13.9%,of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment by 11.9%, of chemical and allied industries – by 3.9%.
