Foreign trade of Latvia in June 2006

The value of exports in June 2006 increased by 5.2% or 14.0 mln lats compared to the previous month but compared to June 2005 it increased by 23.9% or 55.0 mln lats, reaching 285.4 mln lats. The value of imports in June 2006 was by 2.5% or 12.5 mln lats lower than a month ago but compared to June 2005 it was by 25.7% or 100.8 mln lats higher and reached 493.5 mln lats.

The total foreign trade turnover in January-June 2006 was by 22.1% or 778.7 mln lats higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year and its value reached 4308.2 mln lats.

Compared to January-June 2005, the highest increases in exports in January-June 2006 were 53.5% for the products of the chemical and allied industries, 41.3% for plastics and plastic products and 34.5% for agricultural and food products. The decreases in exports, in turn, were 33.5% for mineral products, 8.9% for pulp of wood; paper and paperboard and 2.0% for wood and articles of wood.

Compared to January-June 2005, the steepest increases in imports in January-June 2006 were 55.2% for miscellaneous manufactured articles (including furniture), 52.3% for transport vehicles and 41.7% for the articles of stone, plaster, cement, glassware and ceramic products. There was, in turn, a decrease of 0.4% in the imports of wood and of articles of wood.
