Foreign trade of Latvia in July 2007

Compared to the June 2007, the value of exports in July 2007 decreased by 3.7% or 12.6 mln lats, but in comparison with July 2006 it increased by 23.7 % or 63.0 mln lats, reaching 328.3 mln lats, according to Central Statistical Bureau data.

The value of imports in July 2007 was, in turn, 10.5% or 67.9 mln lats higher than in June 2007, but 39.3% or 202.3 mln lats higher compared to July 2006, reaching 717.5 mln lats.

The total foreign trade turnover in July 2007 was 34.0% or 265.3 mln lats higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year and its value was as high as 1045.7 mln lats.

In July 2007, in comparison with July 2006, in the exports of Latvia the value of main activities – wood and articles of wood - increased by 39.5%. Exports of products of the chemical and allied industries increased noticeably - by 61.6%, exports of base metals and articles of base metals increased by 15.7%. But the exports of mineral products decreased by 33.7%.

In July 2007, in comparison with June 2007 the value of exports of wood and articles of wood increased by 6.2%, of products of the chemical and allied industries - by 6.1%, of agricultural and food products – by 4.2%. But the exports of mineral products decreased by 23.8%, of textiles and textile articles– by 23.7 %, of plastics and articles thereof; rubber and articles thereof- by 16.9%, of pulp of wood; paper and paperboard- by 12.9%, machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment- by 12.3%, as well as exports of base metals and articles of base metals- by 6.0%.

In July 2007, in comparison with July 2006 the import value increased in all main commodity groups. The imports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment increased by 79.7%, of plastics and articles thereof; rubber and articles thereof - by 26.4%, of base metals and articles of base metals - by 23.3%, of mineral products - by 20.2%.

In July 2007, in comparison with June 2007, in the value of main activities import of machinery and mechanical appliances increased by 35.4%, of plastics and articles thereof; rubber and articles thereof - by 15.2%, of mineral products- by 9.0%, but the imports of wood and articles of wood decreased by 9.9% and of agricultural and food products – by 3.4%.
