Foreign trade of Latvia in July 2006

The value of exports in July 2006 decreased by 9.3% or 2.7 mln lats compared to the previous month but compared to July 2005 it increased by 6.6% or 16.1 mln lats, reaching 258.7 mln lats.

The value of imports in July 2006 was by 2.1% or 10.3 mln lats higher than a month ago but compared to July 2005 it was by 28.1% or 110.6 mln lats higher and reached 503.8 mln lats.

The total foreign trade turnover in January-July 2006 was by 22.1% or 918.9 mln lats higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year and its value reached 5084.2 mln lats.

Compared to January-July 2005, the highest increases in exports in January-July 2006 were 53.0% for the products of the chemical and allied industries, 40.7% for plastics and plastic products and 32.4% for agricultural and food products. The decreases in exports, in turn, were 34.4% for mineral products, 12.5% for pulp of wood; paper and paperboard and 2.4% for wood and articles of wood.

Compared to January-June 2005, the steepest increases in imports in January-June 2006 were 56.6% for miscellaneous manufactured articles (including furniture), 51.4% for transport vehicles and 37.4% for the articles of stone, plaster, cement, glassware and ceramic products and 33.1% for optical instruments and apparatus, clocks and watches, musical instruments.
