Foreign trade of Latvia in January - September 2012

The provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that in January - September 2012 the total volume of goods in foreign trade of Latvia at current prices reached LVL 11 267.7 million – an increase of LVL 1 271.5 million or 12.7% as compared to January – September 2011. Of which export volume grew by LVL 552.5 million or 12.6%, whereas import volume - by LVL 719.0 million or 12.8%.

In January – September 2012 the share of exports in the total foreign trade volume reached 43.9% and compared to January – September 2011 the foreign trade balance has not changed.

Compared to January – September 2011, the volume of export at constant prices in January – September 2012 due to the influence of price changes grew by 9.2% and the volume of import – by 4.3%

According to the BEC classification, exported and imported goods can be grouped in categories by possible kind of their utilisation. Capital goods are composed of fixed assets, intermediate goods - of industrial supplies provided for further processing.  Goods produced for the needs of the population are treated as consumer goods. Other goods not included in the above-mentioned categories (e.g., military equipment and other specific goods) are included in the category “Other goods”.
