Foreign trade of Latvia in January 2009

Total foreign trade turnover at current prices in January 2009 reached 639.7 mln lats – 177.2 mln lats or 21.7% less than a month before and 306.0 mln lats or 32.4% less than in January of last year, according to provisional data of Central Statistical Bureau.

In January 2009 the most significant share in Latvia’s export had export to the countries of European Union (74.5%), followed by the export to CIS countries – 12.9%. Main export partners were Lithuania (15.7% of total export), Estonia (13.6%), Germany (9.4%), Sweden (7.3%) and Russia (6.4%).

In January 2009 the most significant share in Latvia’s import had import from the countries of European Union (69.0%), followed by the import from CIS countries – 21.7%. Main import partners were Russia (17.4% of total import), Lithuania (15.6%), Germany (9.9 %), Poland (7.7%) and Estonia (6.8%).
