Foreign trade of Latvia in April 2009

In April 2009 the total foreign trade turnover at current prices reached 645.4 mln lats – less by 7.9% or 55.2 mln lats than a month before and less by 40.2% or 433.1 mln lats than in April last year, according to provisional data of Central Statistical Bureau.

In January – April 2009 foreign trade turnover value reached 2632.4 mln lats – less by 34.7% or 1397.0 mln lats than in the same period of last year. Of which exports value comprised 1070.5 mln lats – less by 27.2% or 400.7 mln lats, but imports value comprised 1561.9 mln lats – less by 38.9% or 996.3 mln lats than a year ago.

In April 2009 the most significant share in Latvia’s export had export to the countries of European Union (70.8%), followed by the export to CIS countries – 14.8%. Main export partners were Lithuania (16.2% of total export), Estonia (15.0%), Russia (9.4%), Germany (8.0%) and Sweden (6.9%).

In April 2009 the most significant share in Latvia’s import had import from the countries of European Union (72.3%), followed by the import from CIS countries – 15.8%. Main import partners were Lithuania (16.7% of total import), Germany (10.7 %), Russia (10.4%), Poland (8.9%) and Estonia (6.9%).
