Domestic trade in January 2008

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that compared to December 2007, in January of this year according to seasonally adjusted data (the influence of season and number of working days has been taken into account) decrease of retail trade turnover - by 1.5% - can be observed. Turnover in retail trade enterprises selling textiles, wearing apparel and footwear has decreased by 13.7% and in specialised stores selling mainly food, beverages and tobacco – by 12.6%. Turnover in retail trade enterprises selling pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics and toiletry has increased by 2.5%, in non-specialised stores, selling mainly non-food – by 22.1% and in retail trade enterprises selling furniture, household goods, electrical appliances and construction materials – by 2.9%.

In January this year, compared to January 2007 – by 0.7% (data adjusted by number of working days).

Compared to previous month, in January 2008 retail trade turnover of enterprises the main activity of which is the sale of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts thereof increased by 11.0%, according to seasonally adjusted data, but, compared to January of the previous year (data adjusted by number of working days), there was a decrease of 2.1%. In general, a slow down of development rate in this field is observed.

Compared to December 2007, in January 2008 the turnover of automotive fuel retail trade in enterprises according to seasonally adjusted data has decreased by 0.1%. However, compared to January 2007, the drop made 3.3% (data adjusted by number of working days).
