CSB President Aija Žīgure has been granted the Award of the Cabinet of Ministers
On 10 November the Cabinet decided to grant the Award of the Cabinet of Ministers to Aija Žīgure, the President of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB), for her continuous and highly professional work and innovative approach to the development of the national statistical system.
Owing to her professional attitude, international activities, focus on the development and excellent change management, the CSB has become a reliable statistical authority, compliant with the international standards and requirements; the information prepared by the CSB on the social and economic processes in Latvia is comparable with the official statistical information of other European Union countries. The work of Mrs. Žīgure in the International Statistical Institute, the International Association of Official Statistics, the UN Statistical Commission, the Board of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics Board has contributed greatly to the development of the statistical standards and methodological guidelines for different areas of statistics, to the development of recommendations for the improvement of national statistics and promotion of international comparability, as well as to the enforcement of these requirements in the national legislation regulating the field of statistics. Her continuous effort has promoted recognition of Latvia and the CSB as a public administration authority in Latvia as well as worldwide.
Mrs. Žīgure's professional work in the development of the national statistical system has been also highly appreciated by other public institutions awarding the highest state honours. In 2010, the President of Latvia awarded Aija Žīgure the Cross of Recognition for her merit in the development of the Central Statistical Bureau, great personal contribution to the elaboration of statistical standards and methodology, promoting inclusion of the Latvian statistical system in the statistical system of the European Union. In 2012 she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis for her contribution to the development of national statistical authority, and in 2015 - a Certificate of Recognition of the Ministry of Economy for her contribution to the work of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Aija Žīgure started her carrier in the CSB in 1974, immediately after graduating from the University of Latvia and acquiring the qualification of an economist - statistician. Since 1974 Mrs. Žīgure has taken various positions, which
have given her professional knowledge of all the statistical production processes, as well as comprehensive professional knowledge of statistical theory and management. Since 1998 Mrs. Žīgure is the President of the CSB.
The Award of the Cabinet of Ministers includes an Honorary Diploma, chest badge of the Award of the Cabinet of Ministers, and gratuity of 7115 euros.
