On consumer prices in February 2009 grew by 1.1%

Compared to January 2009 the average consumer price level in February 2009 rose by 1.1%. The average prices of goods rose by 1.3%, but prices of services - by 0.6%.

The growth of consumer prices in February was mainly influenced by the changes of excise duty. Prices of fuel grew by 12.4%, prices of alcoholic beverages – by 8.4%, prices of non-alcoholic beverages – by 5.3% and prices of tobacco products – by 13.2%.

7.3% price increase was recorded for cultural and recreational services; in particular prices of subscription to cable TV and cinema tickets went up sharply. The cease of special offers set price increase for postal services.

The major downward impact came from price decrease of milk and dairy products. Price decrease was recorded also for other food products, e.g. vegetables, fresh meet and fish, meat products, confectionery, oils and fats.

Liquefied gas, heat energy, rents, services of the maintenance and repair of housing and catering services became less expensive as well.

Compared to February of previous year, consumer prices have increased by 9.6%, of which prices of goods increased by 8.7%, but of services – by 11.9%.

The annual average rate of change in February 2009 was 14.3%.
