Consumer price level in September 2008

Compared to August 2008 the average consumer price level in September 2008 rose by 1.1%. The average prices of goods increased by 0.9%, but prices of services - by 1.7%.

The rise in the prices of wearing apparel and footwear, education and catering services, as well as price decrease of fuel had the greatest impact on consumer price changes in September.

With the end of sales campaigns and as the goods of new season entered the market prices of footwear and wearing apparel increased by 18.2% and 6.1%, respectively.

With the beginning of the school year prices of education services grew by 18.8%.

Average level of fuel prices decreased by 1.8%.

Price increase was recorded for meat and meat products, bread and cereal products, juices and refreshing beverages, fish and fish products, vegetables, while prices of fruit, potatoes, sugar, selected dairy products, coffee, tea and tobacco products decreased.

Prices of water supply and other services related to housing, heat energy, passenger transport by road, recreational, cultural, sports, catering and financial services rose.

Price decrease was recorded for TV, audio and video equipment, mobile telephones, data processing equipment, as well as sound and video recording equipment and used cars. Insurance services became more cheaper.

Compared to the September of previous year, the consumer prices have increased by 14.9%, of which prices for goods increased by 14.5%, but for services – by 15.9%.

The annual average rate of change in September 2008 was 15.9%.

In the 9 months of this year, the prices have grown by 10.2%.
