Consumer price level in September 2006

Compared to August 2006, the average consumer price level in September 2006 increased by 0.7%. Prices for goods rose by 0.3% and prices for services went up by 1.6%.

The rise in the prices of wearing apparel, footwear, and catering and educational services as well as the fall in fuel prices had the greatest impact on consumer price changes.

With the termination of special offers and the appearance of new season’s goods, prices rose for clothing and footwear.

Educational services in the new school year became more expensive.

The prices of catering services continued to go up, mainly in enterprise and school canteens.

There has been a substantial rise in the prices of solid fuel.

There were price increases for several food products such as bread, confectionery, meat and meat products, dairy products, cheese, eggs, margarine and sugar.

Automotive fuel in September became cheaper. Prices have fallen for fruit, vegetables, potatoes and fresh fish.

Computer equipment, household appliances, telephones as well as air tickets and travelling services have become cheaper.

Compared to September of the previous year, consumer prices have increased by 5.9% (5.8% for goods and 6.4% for services).

In the 9 months of 2006 consumer prices rose by 4.9% (September this year over December 2005). The increase in the prices of catering services, heating, tobacco products and automotive fuel had the greatest impact on the price rise in nine months.
