Consumer price level in October 2008

Compared to September 2008, the average consumer price level in October 2008 rose by 1.2%. The average prices of goods rose by 1.6%, but of services - by 0.2%.

The rise in the prices of heat energy (+16.5%) and natural gas (+68.9%), seasonal price growth of vegetables, as well as price decrease of fuel (-4.6%) had the greatest impact on consumer price changes in October.

Prices of vegetables, meat and meat products, non-alcoholic beverages, fats and oils, fish and fish products as well as cheese rose.

Fruit, potatoes and sugar became cheaper. Due to the sales campaigns prices of dairy products, sweets, bread and cereal products as well as vines decreased.

Prices of administrative services related to maintenance of motor vehicles grew. Clothing and footwear, non-durable household goods, furniture and furnishings, airline tickets, books and financial services increased.

Due to the discounts prices of pharmaceutical goods, as well as medical and individual care goods decreased. Bicycles, spare parts for cars, mobile telephones, photo, data processing, sound and video recording equipment, sporting and recreational equipment became cheaper. Prices of telecommunication services decreased.

Compared to October of previous year, consumer prices have increased by 13.8%, of which prices for goods increased by 13.5%, but for services – by 14.5%.

The annual average rate of change in October 2008 was 15.9%.
