Consumer price level in May 2007

Compared to April 2007, the average consumer price level in May 2007 rose by 0.6%. Prices for goods increased by 0.6% and prices for services - by 0.7%.

The rise in the prices of automotive fuel, food, natural gas supply and catering services had the greatest impact on consumer price changes in May.

In May the prices of automotive fuel increased by 3.5%.

Meat and meat products, fruit, as well as bread and cereal products had major impact on the price increase in food group. Prices of non-alcoholic beverages, cooking oil and fats also increased but the prices of vegetables decreased. Tobacco products became more expensive (+1.6%).

Price of natural gas supply rose by 16.7%.

Prices for dwelling rent, parking fee and spare parts and accessories for personal transport equipment as well as for driving courses increased in May.

There was price increase for several services: passenger transport by road, recreational and cultural services, services of individual care institutions, package holidays and insurance. With the beginning of summer, the prices for hotel and catering services increased.

In May prices decreased for telecommunications, data processing, TV, audio and video equipment as well as for used cars. Books and cut flowers became cheaper as well.

Compared with May of the previous year, consumer prices have increased by 8.2% (6.5% for goods and 12.7% for services).
