Consumer price level in March 2009

Compared to February 2009 the average consumer price level in March 2009 rose by 0.2%. The average prices of goods decreased by 0.1%, but prices of services rose by 1.2%.

The rise in the prices of hospital and out-patient services, clothing and footwear, fuel as well as price decrease of food products had the greatest impact on consumer price changes.

Significant increase was recorded for administered out-of-pocket payments for hospital services and services of general and specialist practitioners.

Due to the end of seasonal sales campaigns prices went up for wearing apparel and footwear.

Prices continued to decrease for majority of food products as well as for maintenance and repair of dwelling, domestic and household services, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, other services in respect of personal transport equipment, recreational and sporting services, catering, services of individual care institution, accommodation services, dwelling rent and insurance.

Due to the sales campaigns alcoholic beverages became less expensive.

Compared to March of previous year, consumer prices have increased by 8.2%, of which prices of goods increased by 7.1%, but of services – by 11.3%.

The annual average rate of change in March 2009 was 13.5%.

In the 3 months of this year, the prices have grown by 3.5%.
