Consumer price level in July 2007

Compared to June 2007, the average consumer price level in July 2007 rose by 1.2%. Prices for goods increased by 1.2% and prices for services - by 1.3%.

The rise in the prices of tobacco products, services related to housing, heat energy and fruit, as well as the decrease of the prices of clothing had the greatest impact on consumer price changes in July.

Due to the increase of the excise duty, the prices of tobacco products grew by 14.0%.

Services related to maintenance of housing and heat energy became more expensive.

In the food group fruit had the greatest impact on the price increase. Prices of bread and cereal products, meat and meat products, and dairy products rose as well.

Catering services, personal care institution services, insurance and financial services became more expensive.

Due to the seasonal sales, there were decreases in the prices of clothing and footwear. Prices for data processing, TV, audio, video, photo equipment and telephones decreased. Package holidays and sport and recreational equipment became less expensive.

In comparison with July of the previous year, there was an increase of consumer prices by 9.5%, including for goods – by 8.2% and for services – by 13.0%.
