Consumer price level in February 2007

Compared to January 2007, the average level of consumer prices in February 2007 rose by 0.5%. The average price level for goods did not change whereas prices for services increased by 1.8%.

Increases in the prices of transport services and dwelling maintenance services, bread and cereal products and solid fuel as well as decreases in the prices of wearing apparel, footwear and automotive fuel had the greatest impact on price changes in February.

There were increases in the prices of transport services (+8.8%), especially in the prices of tickets in urban and district bus routes and trams.

The following dwelling maintenance-related services and goods continued to become more expensive: water supply (+5.9%), sewerage (+4.9%) and dwelling repair services (+2.1%). Rent payments rose by 3.1% and prices for firewood increased by 7.3%.

There were considerable price increases for sugar, cereal products, bread and potatoes. Due to the conclusion of special offers, the prices of cigarettes have increased. Prices continued to go up for footwear repair, repair of household appliances, health services, personal transport maintenance and repair services, insurance as well as for kindergarten attendance.

Furniture, dwelling furnishings, vehicle spare parts and materials for dwelling maintenance and repair became more expensive.

Under the impact of sales campaigns there were decreases in the prices of wearing apparel (-4.1%), clothing accessories (-6.1%) and footwear (-6.0%). A fall of 1.6% in the prices of automotive fuel could be observed in February.

There were decreases in the prices of selected vegetables, telecommunications services, TV, video and audio equipment, photographic and data processing equipment, personal grooming goods and air tickets. Due to the sales campaigns, prices for optical goods became less expensive.

Compared to February of the previous year, consumer prices have increased by 7.3% (6.0% for goods and 10.9% for services).
