Consumer price level in February 2006

The average consumer price level in February 2006 rose by 0.4% in comparison with January 2006. Prices for goods increased by 0.4% and prices for services went up by 0.3%.

 Similarly as in January, fluctuations in the prices of vegetables, wearing apparel and footwear had the greatest impact on consumer price changes in February.

 The prices of vegetables during the month went up by 17.6%. There were also increases in the prices of fish and fish products, milk and dairy products, cheese and alcoholic beverages whereas bread became cheaper.

 Dwelling maintenance expenses in February continued to rise. There were increases in the prices of heating, waste disposal and other expenses related to dwelling maintenance. Prices for health services, pharmaceuticals, cut flowers, catering services and passenger road transport services became more expensive. With the discount campaigns coming to an end, the prices of household appliances went up. 

Along with the continuation of seasonal commodity sales there were decreases in the prices of wearing apparel and footwear.

 There were decreases in the prices of telecommunications equipment and services. There were also decreases in the prices of TV, audio and video equipment, computer equipment and automotive fuel.

 Compared to February of the previous year, consumer prices have increased by 6.9% (6.9% for goods and 6.8% for services).
