Consumer price level in August 2007 rose by 0.4%

Compared to July 2007, the average consumer price level in August 2007 rose by 0.4%. The prices remained constant for goods, but increased for services by 1.3%.

The rise in the prices of tobacco products, catering services, meat and meat products and heating, as well as, price decrease of vegetables had the greatest impact on consumer price changes in August.

Due to the increase of the excise duty in July, the prices of tobacco products continued to rise also in August (+9.8%).

The price increase was observed for meat and meat, cheese and sugar, but the prices of vegetables and fruit, in turn, decreased.

In August the heat energy, rents and services related to maintenance of dwellings became more expensive.

The prices increased also for the catering services, household services, dental services, repair of footwear, repair and cleaning of clothing, repair of the data processing equipment and transport services. The prices of books, furniture and solid fuel also increased.

Due to the sales campaigns, the prices of sports and recreational equipment, bicycles, personal care goods and TV, audio, video equipment decreased.

The prices of fuel, telecommunication and photographic equipment, tools and equipment for house and garden, as well as the prices of used motor vehicles decreased as well.

Compared to the August of previous year, the consumer prices have increased by 10.1%, of which prices for goods increased by 8.7%, but for services – by 13.9%.

The annual average rate of change in August 2007 was 7.8%.
