On consumer price changes in September 2010

Compared to August 2010, the average consumer price level in September 2010 increased by 0.4%. The average prices of goods increased by 0.6%, but the average prices of services didn’t change.

Price growth of clothing, footwear and food, as well as price drop of goods and services related to housing had the major impact on consumer price changes in September.

In food group price increases were recorded for fresh vegetables (+10.1%), cereal products (+5.1%), milk and dairy products (+1.9%), non-alcoholic beverages (+1.5%), fats and oils (+2.4%).

The end of sales and the appearance on the market of new seasonal articles caused the price increase of footwear and wearing apparel by 7.8% and 5.6% respectively.

Prices also increased for educational, recreational, cultural and sports services as well as for individual care goods, flowers, books, stationery and alcoholic beverages.

The major contribution to the price decrease in housing group came from heat energy, which prices on average dropped by 3.9%. Price decrease by 4.6% was recorded for natural gas and by 1.8% - for liquefied gas, while prices of solid fuels rose by 3.5%.

Prices also decreased for package holidays and sanatorium services as well as for fruit, pharmaceutical products, pet food, airline tickets, used cars, bicycles and TV, video, audio, photo and data processing equipment.

Compared to September of previous year, consumer prices have increased by 0.4%, of which prices of goods have increased by 2.0%, while prices of services – decreased by 3.5%.

The annual average rate of change in September 2010 was -1.8%.

Within 9 months of 2010 the consumer prices grew by 1.8% (September of this year in comparison with December 2009).
