On consumer price changes in November 2009

Compared to October 2009, the average consumer price level in November 2009 fell by 0.7%. The average price level for goods decreased by 0.6%, but prices of services decreased by 0.9%.

Price decrease of heat energy, alcoholic beverages, food products, as well as price growth of fuel had the greatest impact on consumer price changes in November.

Prices of heat energy continued to decrease in November (-4.7%) having the biggest downward impact on headline rate of consumer prices.

Special offers influenced price decrease of food products by 0.9%, especially meat and meat products, bread and cereal products, non-alcoholic beverages, eggs and sugar and sweets, as well as alcoholic beverages – by 2.0%.

Price decrease was recorded for majority of services, in particular for services for maintenance and repair of the dwelling (-2.3%), out-patient services (-1.5%), catering services (-0.8%), accommodation services (-2.2%), hairdressing salons and personal grooming establishments (-2.2%), insurance (-5.1%), as well as maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment (-3.4%).

Fuel prices increased by 3.8% in November compared to a decrease in October. Petrol prices rose by 3.7% and diesel – by 4.6%.

Compared to November of previous year, consumer prices have decreased by 1.2%. The average price level for goods fell by 1.5%, but prices of services decreased by 0.2%.

The annual average rate of change in November 2009 was 4.5%.
