On consumer price changes in May 2008

Compared to April 2008, the average consumer price level in May 2008 rose by 0.9%. Prices of goods increased by 0.9%, while services - increased by 1.0%.

The price increase of vegetables and fuel had the greatest impact on price changes in May. Notable monthly price increases were recorded for:

- fats and oils, non-alcoholic beverages, bread and cereal products, fish and fish products as well as alcoholic beverages;

- water supply, sewerage, waste disposal, heat energy and other house maintenance;

- catering services, home care services, cultural, recreational and sporting services, outpatient services and services of individual care institutions as well as exploitation of private motor vehicles;

- books and periodicals, medicaments, pet food, airline tickets, sport and recreational equipment.

On the other hand, price decreases were recorded for milk and dairy products, cheese, chicken meat, fruit and juices, clothing, individual care goods, flowers, mobile telephones, TV and data processing equipment.

Compared to May of previous year, the consumer prices have increased by 17.9%, of which prices for goods increased by 18.0%, but prices for services – by 17.6%.

Compared to previous 12 months, the average consumer price level has increased by 13.8%.
