On consumer price changes in March 2013

Compared to March of previous year, consumer prices have increased by 0.2%. The average price level for goods increased by 0.3%, while for services did not change. The annual average rate of change in March 2013 was 1.5%.

The greatest upward pressures on the consumer prices in March 2013, as compared to March 2012, were put by the rise in food commodity prices, whereas drop in the transport goods and services and communication services prices had the most significant downward impact.

In the food commodity group increase was recorded in the prices of vegetables (+5.6%), fresh meat (+3.2%), eggs (+15.0%), bread and cereal products (+1.6%), whereas the most notable reduction was observed in the prices of milk and dairy products (-1.1%), sugar (-3.3%), and fruit (-1.0%).

Within the transport group prices of fuel dropped on average by 2.6%.

Prices of telecommunication devices fell by 9.7%, and prices of telecommunication services reduced by 6.7%.

Within 3 months of 2013 the consumer prices grew by 0.2% (March 2013 compared to December 2012).

In March compared to February, the average consumer price level increased by 0.5%. During the month the average price level of goods increased by 0.7%, while the average prices of services did not change.

The greatest upward pressures on the price changes in March were put by the growth of clothing and footwear as well as food prices, while the strongest downward pressures were applied by goods and services related to transport.

Price rise in the clothing and footwear group was due to the end of seasonal discounts and as goods of the new season entered the market. Prices of clothing increased by 6.6% and prices of footwear rose by 9.6%.

In the food commodity group growth was observed in the prices of vegetables (+7.3%), sausages and smoked meat (+0.7%), as well as milk and dairy products (+0.4%).Whereas fruit (‑4.5%), bread and cereal products (-0.5%), and fresh meat (-0.5%) witnessed a price reduction.

Within the transport group prices of fuel dropped on average by 1.3%.

The highest increase among other consumption groups was recorded in the prices of goods for personal care (+3.2%) and spirits (+1.4%). Whereas prices of beer diminished (-3.2%).
