On consumer price changes in June 2011

Compared to May 2011, the average consumer price level in June 2011 increased by 0.3%. Prices of goods rose by 0.3%, but prices of services increased by 0.2%.

The largest upward pressures to the price changes in June came from goods and services related to housing and alcoholic beverages, but the largest downward pressures – from food and footwear.

The greatest impact in housing group came from heat energy which tariffs rose by 4.1%. Prices of solid fuel increased by 1.9%, while liquefied gas became by 0.9% cheaper.

Price growth of alcoholic beverages on average by 3.2% was influenced by the increase of the excise duty of spirits as well as by the end of the sales of vines and beer.

In food commodity group the greatest lowering impact came from fresh vegetables which prices seasonally fell by 20.9%. Prices also decreased for bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and fruit. In turn, price increases were recorded for sausages and dried meat, tea, coffee and vegetable oils.

Influenced by the seasonal sales, prices of footwear fell by 3.5%. Due to the excise duty increase petrol prices on average grew by 1.0%. Prices also increased for passenger transport services and package holidays.

Compared to June of the previous year, consumer prices have increased by 4.8%. The average price level for goods increased by 6.4%, but the average prices for services increased by 0.5%.

The annual average rate of change in June 2011 was 2.6%.

In the 6 months of this year, the consumer prices have grown by 4.1%.
