On consumer price changes in June 2010

Compared to May 2010, the average consumer price level in June 2010 increased by 0.4%. Prices of goods rose by 0.5%, but of services – by 0.1%.

Price growth of goods and services related to housing and food, as well as price decrease of goods and services related to transport, clothing and footwear had the major impact on consumer price changes.

Housing component recorded an increase of 2.7%. In particular, heat energy became more expensive - by 8.3%, having the largest upward impact on the headline rate. Price growth was recorded also for solid fuels and services of housing maintenance and repair.

Prices of food in June increased on average by 0.5%. The most significant contributors were fruit (+4.0%) and vegetables (+1.8%) as a result of seasonal factors, while price rise of dairy products, meat and eggs was driven by end of special offers.

Prices of goods and services related to transport decreased on average by 0.6%. That mainly was influenced by the fuel price drop of 1.0%.

The fall in clothing (-1.3%) and footwear (-1.2%) this month were impacted by special offers.

In June price increase was observed also for package holidays, personal care goods, tobacco products, services of rehabilitation centres and specialist practices, goods for routine household maintenance and jewellery. Meantime prices of pharmaceutical products, pet food, alcoholic beverages, furniture, catering, cultural, internet connection, personal care services, in turn, decreased.

Compared to June of the previous year, consumer prices decreased by 1.4%. The average price level for goods increased by 0.1%, but for services – decreased by 5.1%.

The annual average rate of change in June 2010 was -1.4%.
